Camp HiLo was created to address a need. . .

. . . the need for youth with Type 1 Diabetes to know that they are not alone. More that that, Camp HiLo was formed to create a family. We understand the ups and downs, the triumphs and setbacks, and the overwhelming emotions that come with having T1D.

At Camp HiLo, we provide a unique opportunity for youth with T1D to meet others who face the same challenges. For one week during the summer, campers find that they are not alone in the world. Daily tasks like checking blood sugar, counting carbs and administering insulin are no longer daunting or isolating experiences.

Our summer camp is for youth ages 8-17 with T1D, and functions like any other summer camp. We offer a wide range of activities, including campfire, arts and crafts, and delicious food! Each cabin is assigned a counselor with experience in managing T1D and a medical staff member to oversee dosing and provide medical care throughout the night. Medical staff are available throughout the day and our kitchen crew ensures that meals are balanced with the right amount of carbs, fats and protein.

Our MedBay is fully equipped, so that we can handle all of Camp HiLo’s highs and lows. That’s what we do at camp- help each other through the highs and lows. At Camp HiLo, youth with T1D can feel like they belong and discover that they are part of a supportive family.

What We Are About

Community

Camp HiLo offers a space where parents, counselors, campers and other volunteers can come together to build a supportive community and foster a sense of belonging.

Eduction

Throughout the camp program, we instruct and prepare campers, counselors, and other volunteers to manage their Type 1 Diabetes beyond the camp environment.

Connection

At Camp HiLo, youth with Type 1 Diabetes create lasting bonds and find inspiring mentors. Volunteers with T1D offer guidance and support, serving as role models for campers to pursue their dreams. Campers learn they’re not alone in their condition and gain skills and confidence to manage it. They also learn the importance of giving and receiving support, making the camp a second home where they return year after year.
