At Camp HiLo, every cabin is assigned its own medical team member. One team member stays with the cabin to ensure that campers receive constant medical attention, while the rest of the team works behind the scenes to guarantee that everything runs smoothly.

Throughout the week, the team works in close collaboration with the counselors to provide the best possible care for everyone, managing their type 1 diabetes as well as other medical needs. In addition to medical support, the medical team also educates campers on diabetes management, helping them gain valuable knowledge and skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.

The medical team’s role extends beyond just the management of diabetes- they are also available to provide any other medical assistance that campers may require during their stay. By having a dedicated medical team member assigned to each cabin, Camp HiLo is able to provide individualized care to every camper, ensuring that each one receives the attention and support they need to have a safe and enjoyable camp experience.

“As a mom and nurse, it meant a lot to me to provide medical care and monitor the kids for safety so they could just focus on having fun and being kids. I took away how much these littles have to deal with every day of their lives and how important it is to help make their lives as “normal” as possible so they can just thrive in this world.”
