Program
If there’s an activity going on at Camp HiLo, Program staff are on the scene and getting things done. The staff includes all counselors, junior counselors (JC’s), arts and crafts, photographers, and general or administrative support staff.
The Program department runs all activities, camper schedules, and making sure campers are happy and occupied. They are the lifeblood of camp and often are campers who have “graduated” and would like to give back. The program staff also includes the people who do so much work behind the scenes to make sure Camp Hilo happens.

“Starting Camp HiLo this year, I felt a lot of conflicted emotions. It had been my first year back at camp since 2016. I was nervous, but more excited than anything. I got to bring my best friend in the entire world with me to camp, Kapoww, so it made me a little less anxious. When we arrived at HiLo, it instantly felt like camp used to when I was a kid. Being welcomed immediately, jumping right in to introducing each other, playing games, just having a ton of fun right from the start. It made me so excited for the days to come. Everyone was so kind, loving and accepting.
Being at camp was the best part of growing up for me. Being Type 1 takes an indescribable emotional toll on me, being around people who perceived my disease as “normal” made dealing with it feel a lot less scary, it gave me the push to take care of myself. Camp was my home my entire life, so to stop going, left a big of an empty feeling in me. I needed HiLo, more than I thought I did. It gave me my home back, new friends, who soon turned family. It gave me a sense of peace, healing,
I felt renewed after camp.
I had the best cabin on top of all of that. I miss my girls everyday and can’t wait to be back. Counting down the days to HiLo where I can be reunited with my family. I cannot thank Toffee, Kosmik, Attitude, or anyone who put their all into making camp happen this year enough. Thank you parents, campers, staff and faculty, Alacca, all of you, for healing a part of me I never knew I needed. Love,
